FQPL Round 18 Review: Five in a row for Logan

June 25, 2018

Logan secured their fifth straight victory, while four goals to Kado Aoci ensured victory for Souths.

Elsewhere, Rochedale consolidated their position in the top three and another defeat sees the Buccaneers remain winless at the bottom of the Football Queensland Premier League table.

Wolves FC 1 (Martinez 80’ pen)
Mitchelton FC 5 (Donnelly-Fagan 7’, Drager 22’ 38’, own goal 53’, Jafari 79’)
Carmichael Park

Mitchelton dominate against Wolves

Mitchelton FC secured a confident away victory on Saturday night, defeating Wolves FC 5-1 at Carmichael Park.

Mitchelton junior Emryn Donnelly-Fagan opened the scoring with a goal on debut in the seventh minute before Peter Drager added to the visitors’ lead with a brace.

A 79th minute goal by Mustafa Jafari and an own goal cemented the win for the away side who sit five points out of the top four.

Wide Bay Buccaneers 1 (Wilks 54’)
Capalaba Bulldogs 5 (Edgar 24’, 30’, Watson 35’, Ono 80’, Mceachran 90+3’)
Hervey Bay United SC 1

Convincing away win for Capalaba

The trip to Hervey Bay didn’t affect the Capalaba Bulldogs on Saturday night as they defeated Wide Bay Buccaneers 5-1 at Hervey Bay United SC.

A James Edgar brace in the first half and a 35th minute goal from Luke Watson got the visitors off to a strong start, before the home side hit back with a Benjamin Wilks goal in the 54th minute.

Capalaba extended their lead in the 80th minute with a goal to Ryo Ono before a Matthew Mceachran goal in the dying minutes of injury time secured the win and ensured Wide Bay Buccaneers remain without a win so far this season.

Holland Park Hawks FC 1 (Westerdale 38’)
Logan Lightning 5 (Brownlie 12’, 14’, Guy 19’, 77’ (pen), Barbarouses 22’)
Whites Hill Reserve 2

Lightning down Hawks

Logan Lightning secured their fifth straight win on Saturday night, defeating Holland Park Hawks 5-1 at Whites Hill Reserve.

Player-coach Royce Brownlie opened the scoring with a brace in the first 15 minutes of the game before Zander Guy and George Barbarouses extended Logan’s lead before half time.

A 38th minute goal to Carlton Westerdale was the only consolation for the home side, with Guy’s 77th minute penalty sealing the victory for the away side who remain comfortably in second position on the ladder after 18 rounds.

Rochedale Rovers 2 (Njie 53’ 84’)
Sunshine Coast Wanderers 1 (Fuller 30’)
Underwood Park Field 1

Second half comeback sees Rochedale secure the win

Rochedale Rovers came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Sunshine Coast Wanderers at Underwood Park Field 1 on Saturday night.

The visitors opened the scoring with a goal to Kobe Fuller on the half-hour mark to send the away side to the sheds with the lead at half time, before a Benjamin Njie double fueled a second half comeback for the home side.

The result was Rochedale’s their first win in four games, which sees them remain in third position after 18 rounds.

Ipswich Knights 2 (Peter 49’, Sekulic 73’)
Souths United 4 (Aoci 41’, 47’, 81’, 82’)
Eric Evans Oval 1

Four goals to Aoci secure win for Souths

Souths United extended their four game unbeaten streak with a 4-2 victory over Ipswich Knights at Eric Evans Oval on Sunday afternoon.

Goals to Emmanuel Peter and Milan Sekulic in the 49th and 73rd minutes weren’t enough for the home side as an impressive four goals to Kado Aoci ensured the visitors left with three points.
