Football Queensland (FQ) is thrilled to reveal it will stage a three-week, seven-game football extravaganza showcasing the state’s top male and female talent in matches against their New South Wales counterparts and Brisbane Roar’s A-League and Westfield W-League sides in the epic new Kappa Festival of Football.
The entertainment begins with two action-packed evenings on 27 & 28 November as Perry Park hosts the NPL Queensland Men’s, Women’s and Football Queensland Premier League Grand Finals, before Brisbane Roar enter the fray for a Dolphin Stadium double-header against the NPL Queensland All-Star teams on 5 December.
Then, on 12 December, the Kappa Festival of Football reaches its crescendo when a famed rivalry reignites as Queensland’s best male and female players and coaches take on New South Wales in a blockbuster battle for bragging rights, providing a much-desired opportunity for leading players to represent their states.
FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said: “The Kappa Festival of Football promises to deliver a great celebration of Queensland’s exceptional players, coaches and referees and an unforgettable three weeks for football fans.
“It has been a challenging year for football, but the Queensland football community has grown stronger and more united in 2020 and FQ is proud to celebrate our participants, our people and our game by developing this exciting football experience.
“We are looking forward to the Kappa Festival of Football becoming an annual highlight on the Australian footballing calendar and we thank Kappa, Football NSW and Brisbane Roar for backing the initiative.”
Football NSW CEO Stuart Hodge said: “We all know how intense the contest gets when Queensland and New South Wales share a pitch.
“This is a great opportunity for our players and coaches to get up there, represent their state and exhibit the quality that exists in the NPL.”
Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre added: “Once again, Queensland leads the way on working together to create opportunities for football.
“Brisbane Roar and Football Queensland have been working together over a range of initiatives and the Festival of Football is another example of our unified front to lead our sport forward in Queensland and in Australia.
“Our club is looking forward to the start of our pre-season campaign for the 2020/2021 season and this will be a great opportunity to play against some of the finest NPL Queensland players.
“This again is another win for our state and a win for football.”
More information on squad and coach selection will be released through footballqueensland.com.au and the FQ social media channels over the coming days.
