Football Queensland (FQ) has today confirmed eight clubs have been successful in their applications to participate in the Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) 2 competition from 2021.
The FQPL 2 Assessment Panel evaluated 15 complete submissions following a highly competitive application process and immense level of overall interest in the new FQPL 2, which connects the football pyramid through promotion and relegation by serving as a transitional men’s third tier beneath the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland Men’s competition and FQPL 1.
All four members of the Assessment Panel reviewed each application independently of each other and provided scores against an extensive criterion including, among other considerations, football strategy, standards of grounds and facilities, and quality of coaches and technical delivery, as well as a new ‘For the Good of the Game’ criteria.
To ensure consistency and transparency, the Assessment Panel then met to moderate scores before agreeing to issue licences to the following eight clubs:
- Caboolture SFC
- Coomera Colts
- Grange Thistle
- Magic United
- North Star
- Samford Rangers
- Taringa Rovers
- Virginia United
FQ Board member and former Socceroo Jon McKain oversaw the moderation process and praised all 15 applicants for the strength of their submissions.
“On behalf of Football Queensland and the FQ Board, I want to congratulate the eight clubs and welcome their participation in the FQPL 2 in 2021,” McKain said.
“The analysis undertaken by the Assessment Panel was very thorough and FQ are excited to have the eight new clubs forming part of a connected football pyramid with the NPL and it showed through their very strong application standard. That combined with the overall interest among 29 clubs is extremely encouraging for football in Queensland.
“Ultimately, there were a number of standouts and the eight clubs chosen all deserve the opportunity to be part of the inaugural FQPL 2 season in 2021.
“It was clear that they are ready to participate in what is an exciting new competition within the connected football pyramid.”
