Football Queensland is proud to name Doon Villa FC as the May Club Changer Club of the Month, recognising the Maryborough-based club for its outstanding commitment to volunteerism and community spirit.
In the heart of Wide Bay, Doon Villa FC has built a strong and welcoming football environment. Backed by a passionate and growing volunteer base, the club continues to thrive across all levels, from juniors to FQPL, with Villa Park standing out as a hub for the region’s football community.
At the core of the club’s recent growth is a significant increase in both the number and diversity of volunteers. Over the past 12 to 24 months, Doon Villa has welcomed new faces of all ages, including young players stepping into coaching roles and long-time supporters lending a hand behind the scenes.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our success,” said Club President Chris Fuller.
“We’ve seen more people step up, including younger members, and their contributions are what keep the club running so smoothly.”
Volunteers support all areas of club operations, including the canteen and bar, grounds maintenance and social media. One standout initiative is the management of the club’s RV park, which has become an important fundraising stream and helped fund critical upgrades to the playing fields.
Doon Villa FC has also seen positive growth in female participation, with more women involved in playing, coaching and volunteering. The club continues to build a culture that welcomes everyone.
“At Doon Villa, we are proud to be a club for everyone,” said Fuller.
“Our growth isn’t just in numbers, it’s in spirit, values, and a shared love for the game.”
This inclusive approach is supported by the club’s commitment to sustainable growth. The Club Changer program has played an important role, helping Doon Villa strengthen volunteer management and plan for the future.
“The tools and guidance provided by Club Changer have made it easier to get people involved and keep them engaged. It’s been a game-changer for us.”
With strong foundations in place, Doon Villa FC is focused on continued growth and connection in 2025.
“While winning premierships is always a goal, what matters most is continuing to create an environment where people feel valued and part of something bigger,” said Fuller.
“That sense of belonging is what sets Doon Villa apart.”
Whether you’re a player, supporter, or someone looking to lend a hand, Doon Villa FC is a place where community comes first. It’s a club built on values, powered by people, and united by a deep passion for football.
“Doon Villa FC is more than just a football club, we’re a family,” Fuller said.
“We’re proud of where we’ve come from, excited about where we’re going, and always ready to welcome new faces into the fold.”
