Just four teams remain in the hunt for Brisbane’s two Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 spots after this week’s Preliminary Round 6 fixtures.
At least one new participant is confirmed for the Final Rounds with either PlayStation® 4 National Premier Leagues title contender Redlands United or Flight Centre Premier League side Rochedale Rovers to book their debut.
Redlands edged Brisbane City 1-0 on Tuesday night while Rochedale upset Moreton Bay United 2-1 at Underwood Park.
Redlands will enjoy hosting rights at Cleveland Showgrounds for the Preliminary Round 7 decider as both sides bid to become just Queensland’s sixth side to experience the Round of 32, excluding Brisbane Roar.
The winner of that match will progress alongside an experienced counterpart with Lions FC to host Brisbane Strikers in another mouth-watering decider.
Lions impressed many in their run to the Round of 16 last year and look in ominous touch after dispatching Moggill FC 7-0 on Wednesday night.
They will face stiffer competition in the next round in the form of Brisbane Strikers, who are seeking to make it three straight appearances in the Cup’s national stages.
Strikers scored at either end of their 2-0 away win over Southside Eagles to tee up a trip to Lions Stadium.
Birsbane’s two qualifiers will be joined by a team each from the Northern Region and Southern Region, to be decided on 11 June.
Match details for the Metro Region’s Preliminary Round 7 fixtures will be published on footballqueensland.com.au upon confirmation.
