Galaxy FC maintained their unbeaten Puma F-League Women’s record with an entertaining 3-3 draw and stunning 4-1 victory in Sydney over the weekend.
The Gold Coast side proved their mettle on Saturday night by fighting back to level on three separate occasions against East Coast Heat.
Mariel Hecher, who netted Galaxy’s first, sealed the thrilling draw with a superbly hit free-kick late in the match.
It was a far different tale on Sunday morning when the Queensland team stunned league-leaders Dural Warriors 4-1 at Valentine Sports Park.
Mariel Hecher scored a hattrick and Alisha Foote grabbed the other as Galaxy established their impressive credentials, joining fellow Queensland club South Brisbane as the only two sides yet to lose in the eight-team Women’s competition.
Galaxy’s Men suffered a tougher trio of results across their weekend in New South Wales as three straight defeats returned the club to mid-table.
After falling 5-1 to Inner West Magic on Friday night, Bruno Cannavan’s side produced a plucky effort against East Coast Heat just 24 hours later – fighting back from three goals down to narrowly lose 7-6.
Another fine effort on Sunday afternoon resulted in a 7-5 defeat to Dural Warriors, who maintained the perfect record at the top of the Men’s division.
Galaxy are now just one spot above sixth-placed South Brisbane as the two clubs head to Melbourne this weekend for both Men’s and Women’s fixtures.
