Peninsula Power has capped off an incredible season in the Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL), securing the Premiership-Championship double with a 2-0 win over Eastern Suburbs in the Grand Final at AJ Kelly Park.
More than 1,000 spectators witnessed the incredible feat, which sees Power finish the regular season and Finals Series without losing a match and dropping points just once – a 1-1 draw with Logan Lightning in Round 11.
Dean Briggs was again the hero for Aaron Philp’s men, netting a clinical first half double as wet weather around the Redcliffe Peninsula made difficult for both sides to find their rhythm in the early stages.
Easts’ leading goal scorer Youeil Shol came closest for the visitors in opening stages but he dragged his shot wide of the upright after he was found by a deft through ball from midfield.
Power opened the scoring the 21st minute when Joshua Woolley’s pinpoint cross met the run of Briggs, whose first-time volley had Easts ‘keeper Samuel Long beat.
Briggs had his second ten minutes before the break, picking up a loose ball inside the penalty area and slotting home from close range as the rain began to pour at AJ Kelly Park.
Both sides had their chances in the second stanza – Easts’ Scot Coulson testing Jake Reesby in the Power goal from a set piece and Long denying Briggs a hat-trick in stoppage time with a diving save – but in the end, it was Power’s night to celebrate.
