Two additional Queensland match officials have been selected to join the FIFA Panel of International Referees for 2019, bringing Queensland’s tally to 11 internationally-recognised referees.
Hyundai A-League assistant referee Andrew Lindsay and Westfield W-League referee Lara Lee have both been appointed by FIFA for 2019, while Hyundai A-League assistant referee David Walsh retired from international football in 2018 after five years.
FQ State Referee Coach Ted Kearney congratulated Lindsay and Lee on their significant achievement, saying it was credit to their hard work throughout many years of refereeing.
“Andrew and Lara have both come through the FQ Pursuit of Excellence Program and this appointment is reward for close to 10 years of dedication and commitment to being the best they can be on and off the field, not to mention their obvious talent,” Kearney said.
“Both had to complete two years at the top level [Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League] before being considered for nomination by FFA to FIFA.
“There was never a guarantee when they started the journey and now another journey begins. We wish them luck in the next exciting phase of their football careers.”
Kearney also paid tribute to the retiring Walsh, who will continue to officiate on the Hyundai A-League.
“It is also appropriate to acknowledge David Walsh, who retired from the FIFA Panel at the end of December,” Kearney said.
“Since he joined the FIFA Panel in 2013, David has become one of Australia’s most highly-rated assistant referees and a great role model for younger match officials.
“We congratulate him on a wonderful international career.”
