Following the recent passing of former Brisbane-based referee Dieter Klose, Football Queensland (FQ) will award the Community Referee of the Year Award in his honour at this year’s FQ Awards event.
The Dieter Klose Community Referee of the Year Award will acknowledge Klose’s significant contribution to the game in Queensland.
One of the first referees in the National Soccer League in the late 1970s, Klose was regarded as one of Australia’s top match officials from the 1960s to the 1980s, and refereed in the top divisions in both Brisbane and the state.
Klose became one of the first referees inducted into the FFA Football Hall of Fame in 1999, and was a life member of the Australian Soccer Referees Federation (ASRF).
Well respected by clubs and players alike, Klose served as State President of the ASRF for more than 10 years before becoming National President.
Football Queensland would like to extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of Klose.
