The FFA Cup may have slightly interrupted Round 14 of the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland but football must go on with the Match of the Round seeing Brisbane Roar Youth host Olympic FC on Sunday night.
The NPL Match of the Round can be viewed live and on demand on the FQ website, FQ Facebook and FQ YouTube channel.
Brisbane Roar Youth will go into the match without a win in nine outings with their last win coming in Round 3 against Redlands United.
Last round, they suffered a 3-0 loss to Gold Coast Knights.
Their opposition, Olympic, will look to get back to winning ways after a 1-1 draw with Brisbane Strikers last weekend.
Olympic currently sit in fourth with Gold Coast United right on their tails with three points separating the two clubs.
The last time Roar Youth and Olympic met was in Round 21 last season with the latter coming away with a 3-0 win.
Roar Youth haven’t beaten Olympic since Round 15 in 2016, where they won both games that season 4-1 and 1-0 respectively.
MATCH DETAILS
Olympic FC v Brisbane Roar Youth
Sunday, May 5, 7:30pm
Logan Metro Sports Complex
Other matches to watch:
Gold Coast United v Peninsula Power
Valuable points are up for grabs for Gold Coast United with a win likely to close the gap between them and fourth placed Olympic. While Power haven’t lost a league game since the Brisbane Premier League Grand Final in 2017, they’ve had some recent scares, including coming from behind to beat Sunshine Coast last week and defeating Brisbane City FC on penalties in Wednesday night’s FFA Cup clash.
Brisbane Strikers v Magpies Crusaders FC
With just two points separating the teams, it is anyone’s game when Strikers and Magpies come face-to-face this weekend. The Magpies haven’t won since Round 7 though, while Strikers will come into the game with confidence after knocking last year’s FFA Cup Round of 16 team Lions FC out of the competition on Wednesday night.
Players to watch:
Jordan Farina (Eastern Suburbs): Farina sits just a single goal behind the Golden Boot leader Chris Lucas and has only failed to score twice in his 10 matches this season.
Bon Scott (Brisbane Strikers): Voted in the Round 13 Team of the Week, Scott made some unbelievable saves against Olympic to keep the scores level.
Danny Kim (Lions FC): An important player in one of the best defensive sides in the competition, he will be looking to put in another solid performance against Redlands United.
