Mid-placed teams look to push ahead in Round 15 of the NPLW

May 31, 2019

It’s a mid-table clash for the Round 15 National Premier Leagues Women’s (NPLW) Queensland Match of the Round with Brisbane Roar/QAS taking on Gold Coast United.

The NPLW Match of the Round can be viewed live and on demand on the FQ Website, FQ Facebook and FQ YouTube channel.

Six points separate the two teams with Gold Coast United sitting in seventh spot on 19 points, while Brisbane Roar/QAS are currently eighth-placed on 13 points.

Brisbane Roar/QAS are looking to snag a win this round to push themselves ahead of Mitchelton who are also on 13 points with two games in hand.

The young side haven’t had a win since Round 11 but put up a good fight against The Gap to secure a draw in Round 12.

Since Gold Coast United’s last win was also in Round 11, they will be looking to break the drought to crack into the top half of the table.

The two teams last met in Round 2 this year, with Gold Coast United coming away with a close 2-1 win.

MATCH DETAILS
Brisbane Roar/QAS v Gold Coast United
Saturday, 1 June, 6:00pm
Logan Metro Sports Complex

Other key matches:

Mitchelton v The Gap
Both teams need wins to secure crucial spots on the table. The Gap are only trailing two points behind Logan Lightning who have the bye this week. Meanwhile, Mitchelton are on the same points the Roar/QAS side so winning will push them closer to a finals appearance.

Eastern Suburbs v Moreton Bay United
Eastern Suburbs are in a position to jump up a few spots on the table. They’re currently sitting at tenth place, just one point behind Mitchelton, but that could all change if they secure a win against second-placed Moreton Bay this weekend.

Players to watch:

Eloise Fryer (Gold Coast United): The defender played a crucial role in the back-line against Eastern Suburbs in Round 14, with her efforts earning herself a spot in the Team of the Week.

Tahnai Annis (Mitchelton): Annis is a key midfielder for Mitchelton. As the leading goal scorer for her side, she’ll be a threat against The Gap.

Georgina Amos (Eastern Suburbs): Amos secured the second goal for her side in Round 14 against Gold Coast United. She’s the leading goal scorer for Easts and is in the top ten goal scorers for the season so far.
