The 2020 NPL Queensland season will kick off on Saturday, 8 February, with Round 1 to be dedicated as a Bushfire Appeal Round.
FQ Chief Executive Officer Robert Cavallucci said the standard of competition in the NPL Queensland was growing each year.
“We are excited to welcome a host of new talent to the NPL Queensland for the 2020 season, with a number of international players and former A-League stars joining our premier state competition,” Cavallucci said.
“Following the success of the likes of players including Dylan Wenzel-Halls, Andy Pengelly and Oskar Dillon, I am hopeful that this year’s NPL Queensland season will provide a pathway for even more talented players to make the step up to professional leagues.
“With the promotion of Sunshine Coast Wanderers and Capalaba FC and the addition of some exciting new players to the competition, we’re set for a thrilling year of football in Queensland.”
Last year’s Premiers Lions FC will open their 2020 campaign against Moreton Bay United on Saturday night, while Grand Final winners Gold Coast Knights will travel north to take on Brisbane Strikers on Saturday, 8 February.
Other Saturday night fixtures in Round 1 will include newly-promoted Capalaba FC hosting Eastern Suburbs and 2019 FQPL Premiers Sunshine Coast Wanderers welcoming Brisbane Roar FC, while Redlands United will get their season underway against Brisbane City FC.
The sole Sunday match for Round 1 of the NPL Queensland will see 2019 Grand Finalists Olympic FC host Gold Coast United.
Other highlights in the opening rounds of the 2020 NPL Queensland season include the Gold Coast Derby in Round 2, a Grand Final re-match between Gold Coast Knights and Olympic FC in Round 3, and the two promoted sides Sunshine Coast Wanderers and Capalaba FC meeting in the NPL Queensland for the first time in Round 4.
Round 9 will see Lions FC host Brisbane City in the Brisbane Classico, while Brisbane Strikers and Olympic FC will feature in an Anzac Day clash in Round 10 of the NPL Queensland.
In 2020, all NPL Queensland First Grade matches will be live streamed on the FQ website and YouTube channel.
The draws for the NPL Queensland junior competition, as well as the National Premier Leagues Women’s (NPLW) Queensland and the Football Queensland Premier League will be announced shortly.
