Football Queensland (FQ) has today released the competition structures for the remainder of the 2020 National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland Men’s, NPL Women’s and Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) U20, U18 and Youth seasons.
Since the suspension of football activity in March due to COVID-19, FQ has been working in consultation with all Queensland NPL Men’s, NPL Women’s and FQPL clubs to facilitate the remainder of the 2020 season.
“Following our announcement of the revised season dates for the First Grade NPL Men’s, NPL Women’s and FQPL competitions, we’re excited to confirm season restart details for our Under 20, Under 18 and Youth competitions,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“We know all of our participants have been eager to get back out on the field after a break from the game, and we thank them for their patience and cooperation as we put plans in place for the 2020 season.
“Thank you also to our clubs for their hard work in implementing the Return to Training guidelines to ensure a safe return to football for all participants.”
Pre-season contact training and practice matches will commence from July 10 across FQ competitions in line with Queensland Government guidelines.
Full competition draws will be released in the coming weeks.
NPL Men’s U20/U18
The NPL Men’s U20 and U18 competitions will restart from Friday, 24 July with all 13 teams competing in a two (2) phase competition consisting of a total of 16 rounds, to be completed on Sunday, 8 November.
Phase 1 will consist of 13 rounds with teams playing each other once, and will run through until Sunday, 18 October.
Phase 2 will be undertaken at the completion of Phase 1 with teams splitting into three groups and participating in a further three (3) rounds, with the competition concluding by Sunday, 8 November.
There are no mid-week matches currently scheduled for the NPL Men’s U20 and U18 competitions, though as the season progresses these may be required.
NPL Women’s U18/U15/U13
The NPL Women’s U18, U15 and U13 competitions will recommence from Friday, 17 July, with teams competing in a two (2) phase competition consisting of a total of 16 rounds, to be completed on Saturday, 8 November.
Phase 1 will consist of 11 rounds with teams playing each other once, and will run through until Sunday, 4 October.
Phase 2 will commence at the completion of Phase 1 with teams splitting into two groups and playing a further five (5) rounds, with the competition concluding by Sunday, 8 November.
There are no mid-week matches currently scheduled for the NPL Women’s U18, Under 15 and Under 13 competitions, however these may occur should they be needed.
FQPL U20/U18
The FQPL U20 and U18 competitions will resume from Friday, 24 July, with teams playing in a two (2) phase competition consisting of a total of 16 rounds, to be completed on Sunday, 8 November.
Phase 1 will include 11 rounds with teams playing each other once, and will run through until Sunday, 4 October.
Phase 2 will be undertaken at the completion of Phase 1 with teams splitting into two groups and participating in a further five (5) rounds, with the competition concluding by Sunday, 8 November.
There are no mid-week matches currently scheduled for the FQPL U20 and U18 competitions, though as the season progresses these may be required.
NPL Junior Boys U16/U15/U14/U13
All NPL Junior Boys teams will play 16 rounds in total across two (2) phases for the remainder of the 2020 season, kicking off with the Competition Phase from Friday, 17 July.
14 clubs will compete in the Academy group during the Competition Phase, and 12 clubs will compete in the Development group (11 clubs in U16). The list of clubs in each group can be seen in the table below.
The Academy group will play 13 rounds in the Competition Phase with no byes, running until Sunday, 18 October.
The Development group will play 11 rounds in the Competition Phase with no byes except for the U16 competition (one bye), with this phase running until Sunday, 4 October.
Phase 2 will see teams again split across the two groups; teams 1-4, 5-8 and 9-14 in the Academy group, and teams 15-20 and 21-26 in the Development group.
The Academy group will play three rounds in Phase 2, kicking off from Friday, 23 October and running until Sunday, 8 November.
The Development group will play five rounds in Phase 2, commencing from Friday, 9 October and running until Sunday, 8 November.
There are no mid-week matches currently scheduled for the NPL Junior Boys competitions, however these may be required as the season progresses.
