Football Queensland (FQ) is pleased to confirm the details of the 2020 Yeh the Girls Cup, to be hosted at Briggs Road Sporting Complex next Tuesday, 22 September to Thursday, 24 September.
The girls state football event will feature twelve teams across two pools of six, with Under 12 to Under 16 players from Far North Queensland, North Queensland and Central Queensland travelling to participate alongside SAP Select, NPL Women’s Select and QAS sides.
“Football Queensland is very excited to welcome players from around Queensland for next week’s Yeh the Girls Cup,” State Technical Director Gabor Ganczer said.
“Each team will play four games across the three days of competition, with regional and SEQ-based teams split across both pools to allow for the best development outcomes for participants.
“The Yeh the Girls Cup will also provide a valuable opportunity for FFA national team coaches to see Queensland’s best young female players in action, both in person and through online video platform HUDL.
“Junior Matildas Head Coach Rae Dower will be in attendance alongside QAS National Training Centre U18 Head Coach Garrath McPherson, and they are both looking forward to watching the talent on show from around the state.
“As well as the on-field development and talent identification opportunities, the Yeh the Girls Cup will also incorporate a workshop for regional teams with QAS Sports Psychologist Rachel Jones.”
A host of COVID Safe measures will be in place for the event, including QR code attendance tracking, non-contact temperature checks, hand sanitisation stations and frequent sanitisation of equipment.
The regional teams in attendance will also be placed in an ‘athlete bubble’ in South East Queensland for the duration of their stay.
