Football Queensland (FQ) is set to host an innovative new refereeing course this Sunday, 29 November to support more match officials with making the transition into futsal.
The single-day ‘conversion course’ at Mt Maria College in Brisbane enables registered football referees to gain the knowledge and qualification needed to apply their skills to futsal.
“FQ designed this new development opportunity and pathway for our officials after finding that the existing two-day futsal referee course model was prohibitive for some,” FQ State Referee Manager Jacqui Hurford said.
“The Laws of the Game for futsal have been updated in 2020 and now closely reflect the Laws of the Game for football.
“We saw this as an opportunity to develop a niche single-day course to encourage referees to strengthen their skill set and pursue a new pathway.
“Futsal is great for referees of all ages and experience levels because it’s much faster and you need to identify fouls more quickly.
“This is an extremely valuable skill to have and certainly helps you in the outdoor game.”
