Football Queensland (FQ) has today confirmed the details of the 2021 FQ Community Cup, to be held from Monday, 20 September to Friday, 24 September at Maroochydore FC on the Sunshine Coast.
The major five-day event will welcome over 500 junior boys and girls from across both regional and South East Queensland, with an exciting new format to see one zone crowned FQ Community Cup Champions.
“Football Queensland is delighted to announce the details of the 2021 FQ Community Cup, and we’re thrilled to do so in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council as we build community football events around local tourism and economic development for the host regions,” FQ President Ben Richardson said.
“The FQ Community Cup presents a fantastic opportunity to unite our game by bringing together players, coaches and referees from across the state, and is a great example of Football Queensland’s commitment to providing high-quality participation experiences as outlined in our Strategic Plan.”
“The FQ Community Cup is a highlight of the Queensland football calendar, particularly for our junior players, and provides a valuable development opportunity not only for players but for young referees from all parts of Queensland,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“The connections and friendships fostered off the field between players, families, coaches and referees throughout the week are a special part of the tournament, and paired with the impressive display of talent on-field make the FQ Community Cup an event not to be missed.
“Football Queensland would like to acknowledge the support of Sunshine Coast Council, Football Queensland Sunshine Coast and Maroochydore FC in the planning and development of this year’s FQ Community Cup.
“Maroochydore FC is an excellent venue for the event, which will showcase the many visitor attractions available on the Sunshine Coast.
“We look forward to working with the Council to deliver a memorable experience for all in attendance as we welcome members of our football community from across Queensland to the beautiful Sunshine Coast this September.”
Economy Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray welcomed the new sports development event to the calendar.
He said it aligned with council’s vision to be known as one of Australia’s premier sports training destinations and a great host of major sporting events and teams.
“Maroochydore FC is well equipped to host this event at their complex in Kuluin after several upgrades these last few years including seating, shade structures, new floodlights and new female change room facilities just last year,” Cr O’Pray said.
“A five-day program like this presents a real opportunity for event visitors to sight-see and explore all of our natural assets and attractions,” he said.
Further information on the 2021 FQ Community Cup will be released shortly.
