Brisbane will host the annual Pride Football Australia tournament for the first time in the event’s 12-year history with support from Football Queensland.
The tournament will take place on Saturday, 5 February 2022 at Perry Park, hosted by one of FQ’s newest clubs, Brisbane Inferno.
The tournament will include a social 6-a-side competition open to teams and participants of all backgrounds, as well as exhibition matches between Brisbane Inferno, Sydney Rangers – Australia’s first gay and inclusive men’s football club – and The Flying Bats, the largest lesbian club in the world.

The winners of the exhibition matches will be awarded the Megan Rapinoe Shield and the Josh Cavallo Shield, named after two out-and-proud footballers from the LGBTQIA+ community.
“Football Queensland’s motto is Football For All, For Life, and we are excited to partner with Pride Football Australia in hosting their tournament in Queensland for the first time,” said FQ CEO Cavallucci.
“We encourage Queenslanders of all backgrounds to register their team and get down to support this event.”
Pride Football Australia President James Cardall said he was looking forward to working with FQ to bring the tournament to Brisbane.
“This event has been running for more than 10 years in Sydney and Melbourne, but this year is unique because its being hosted in Brisbane,” said Cardall.
“The reason we’re heading to Queensland is to celebrate the formation of Brisbane Inferno and the opportunity that club will give to LGBTIQA+ footballers in the Greater Brisbane area.
“Clubs like Brisbane Inferno, Sydney Rangers, Melbourne Rovers and The Flying Bats are so important because they help improve diversity and inclusion in football.
“We’re expecting a big crowd to come up from Sydney and are welcoming Queenslanders to join in the 6-a-side tournament.”
