Football Queensland has today confirmed the Central Coast competition structures for the 2023 season following consultation with clubs and participants.
As the Future of Football 2020+ reforms continue to unite football across the state, a number of new products and competitions will be introduced in 2023 to create more opportunities for Queenslanders to get involved in the game.
“2022 has been another fantastic year of growth for the Central Coast region, and we’re excited for an even bigger year for our game off the back of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and in 2023 as the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ comes to Queensland,” FQ General Manager – Central Coast Region Andy Allan said.
“As we welcome the biggest global women’s sporting event to our shores, women and girls will continue to be a major focus for Football Queensland next year with the introduction of some exciting new offerings that will provide more opportunities for female participants to join our game, regardless of their skill level or experience.
“We’re hopeful that combined with our existing options for female participants, this will allow women and girls to find a format that best suits them and their lifestyle as the demand for our game continues to increase across our region and the state as a whole.
“In 2023 we’re excited to launch a Girls Only MiniRoos league for Under 7, Under 9 and Under 11 players and a girls league for Under 13 players in the Central Coast region, in addition to a Women’s social league which will be introduced in Gladstone.
“Some other key changes for 2023 include changing of the Central Coast South Division 2 Men competition to Over 35’s played 11-a-side, the return of the Intercity Cup and the introduction of FQPL Under 13 and Under 16 leagues in addition to the existing U14 leagues.
“MiniRoos carnival days will be introduced on Sundays for Under 9 to Under 11 players during the season.
“FQ will work with clubs entering teams in the Under 13 Central Coast South competition to play home and away with under 12 matches to remain at Palm Drive and will have new referees assigned to games that will receive mentoring as they start their refereeing journey.
“On behalf of Football Queensland, thank you to all participants in the Central Coast region for a fantastic 2022 season, and we look forward to seeing you back out on the field in 2023.”
Registrations for the 2023 season will open in January.
