Football Queensland is excited to announce a brand new men’s tournament for NPL Queensland and FQPL 1 teams with support from official apparel partner Kappa.
The launch of the Kappa Pro Series follows the successful introduction of Football Queensland’s Kappa Women’s Super Cup, a groundbreaking state-wide knockout tournament introduced for women in 2021.
“Kicking off in 2023, the Kappa Pro Series will run throughout the season to provide players in Queensland’s top men’s competitions with an opportunity to gain additional match minutes against varied opposition through the year, complementing regular season fixtures and existing tournaments like the Australia Cup,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“The introduction of the tournament is part of Football Queensland’s commitment to providing high-quality participation experiences for our football community, delivering additional development opportunities for our state’s best male players as well as a new spectacle for Queensland fans to enjoy.
“Football Queensland was proud to launch the first-of-its-kind Kappa Women’s Super Cup in 2021 which has been hugely successful, featuring an incredible 67 clubs from across the state in the second edition of the tournament this year.
“We’re confident that the Kappa Pro Series will be another exciting addition to the Queensland football calendar and would like to thank our valued partner, international sports apparel brand Kappa for their support of this tournament and for their ongoing support of football in our state.
“We look forward to seeing our state’s best male footballers in action next year as our 24 NPL Men and FQPL 1 Men sides go head-to-head in the inaugural edition of the Kappa Pro Series.”
Kappa Australia Director Ze’ev Bogaty said “Kappa is thrilled to partner with FQ again for the delivery of another exciting and innovative cup competition.
“Building on from the success of the Kappa Women’s Super Cup, we’re delighted to be able to demonstrate our ongoing support of football in Queensland by helping to showcase the state’s top talent.”
The Kappa Pro Series will kick off on the weekend of February 10-12 ahead of the commencement of the 2023 NPL Men and FQPL 1 Men competitions.
Teams will be seeded and grouped into four pools of six, playing five rounds within their pool for the initial stage of the tournament.
More information on the structure of the competition and the live draw will be released shortly.
