Football Queensland (FQ) is excited to announce the inaugural edition of the Metro League Cup, set to kick off this April.
The Metro League Cup signals the return of a Metro club competition for senior men’s and women’s teams currently participating in the Metro Leagues.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing a dedicated men’s and women’s Cup competition back to the Metro region this year in the form of the Metro League Cup,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“The Metro region has experienced a surge in football appetite following a massive 2023 and the launch of the new Metro League Cup will look to cater for this increased demand by bringing more competitive football to the region.
“The introduction of the Cup demonstrates Football Queensland’s commitment to providing more high-grade playing opportunities to our Metro football community through the state’s connected football pyramid, which has also seen the introduction of tournaments including the Kappa Queensland Cup and Mitre FQPL Champions League.
“We look forward to seeing Metro Leagues footballers in action and are confident that the addition of the Metro League Cup to the football calendar will deliver quality match-ups and more exciting games for supporters to enjoy.”
The Metro League Cup will commence at the Round of 64 stage for both the men’s and women’s competition and will follow a knockout-style format to determine the inaugural 2024 Metro League Cup Champions at the Final to be held on the weekend of August 16-18.
Nominations are now open for all Metro League clubs to enter one senior men’s and women’s team into the competition. Clubs are advised that the team nomination window will close at 5pm on Thursday, 28 March 2024.
