North Queensland’s oldest football tournament, the Filippo Mele Memorial Carnival will return in 2024, taking place at Paradise Park from Saturday 22 June to Monday 24 June 2024.
The 2024 edition commemorates the 40th year of the Filippo Mele Memorial Carnival’s inception, drawing teams from all over North Queensland for the three-day tournament where boys and girls from Under 9s to Under 13s will vie for the championship titles.
“Football Queensland is excited to commemorate the 40th year since the start of the iconic Filippo Mele Memorial Carnival in the Northern region,” FQ General Manager, Northern Region Craig Ramage.
“With each passing year the tournament continues to grow in size, and this milestone edition is set to be the largest yet as we record a 27% outdoor participation growth in the Northern region in 2024.
“In alignment with our ‘One Football’ strategy, this year’s carnival will connect more teams and young players from across North Queensland as they showcase their skills, increase competitive match minutes and compete for age group titles.
“This year we are also extending an invitation to the victorious teams in Boys Under 11, Under 12 & Under 13 and Girls Under 12/13 age groups, granting them free entry into the 2024 Pacific Junior Championships set to be held on the Sunshine Coast from 21 to 23 September.
“The Filippo Mele Memorial Carnival is a vital event on the Northern football calendar, as FQ continues to deliver greater innovative and accessible participation opportunities and pathways for promising young players across every region in the state.”
Football Queensland is now inviting clubs from the Northern Conference to register teams in the carnival across the following age groups; U9 to U13 Boys, U10/11 and U12/13 Girls.
