Football Queensland is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Les Broadbent, a long‑serving referee, coach and administrator whose involvement in the game spanned more than four decades.
Les began refereeing in 1973 and went on to officiate in four National Grand Finals during his time officiating countless matches across the state and country. After stepping away from refereeing, he continued to give back to the game through coaching and mentoring, taking particular interest in helping young referees develop their skills and confidence.
His time as an administrator saw Les spend eight years as President of the AASRF and a further six years as Queensland AASRF President. He later served for more than a decade as Secretary and Treasurer of SARB until its conclusion in 2016.
Les’ service to the game was recognised through his induction into the Football Australia Hall of Fame and the awarding of two Queensland life memberships, ensuring his significant contributions to officiating will never be forgotten.
Football Queensland extends its condolences to Les’ family and loved ones.
