Refereeing is a great way to stay active and involved in the world game.
Queensland has a long and proud history of producing some of Australia’s best referees. Whether you want to referee at local level, remain active in the game following injury or retirement or make a career out of refereeing, Football Queensland is dedicated to making your journey as rewarding as possible.
Follow these few simple steps and you will be on your way to becoming a match official!
1. Take the online Laws of the Game test (FREE)
This is a free online training module which provides a basic introduction to the Laws of the Game and their interpretations. Successful candidates will receive a certificate identifying they have demonstrated awareness in the Laws of the Game, and have the necessary knowledge to attend the Level 4 Referee course.
2. Complete a Level 4 Referee course
Level 4 is the introductory course that will build on your knowledge gained from the Laws of the Game test. The course runs for 4 hours, there is no exam on-course and you must be a minimum of 13 years old to attend. To receive your qualification, all course attendees must complete a field test at a community football match which will be organised by your local Referee Coach & Development Officer.
3. Register as a Referee to Squadi
Once you have completed the Level 4 Referee Course you must register via Squadi to complete your registration and be appointed to games. You will receive an email from Football Queensland with registration instructions to set-up your Squadi account and pay the registration fee of $150. These fees apply to first year referees only which includes the Level 4 Referee Course, Referee membership for the season and referee equipment including one each of the following items: teal shirt, pair of shorts, pair of socks, whistle, set of cards, set of flags and pink armband for referees under the age of 18.
