Football Queensland is excited to launch its inaugural Female Football Week, a national initiative developed to celebrate and promote the participation opportunities available to girls and women.
The festivities are timed to coincide with International Women’s Day and will run from Tuesday, 8 March to Monday, 14 March.
Football Queensland will hold several events during Female Football Week and is encouraging clubs and zones across the state to get involved by embracing their own activities.
Programs and activities will include opportunities for girls new to football to enjoy a free AIA Vitality MiniRoos for Girls ‘Come and Try’ session in addition to recognising the role female coaches, referees, administrators and volunteers play in making football great.

Football Queensland Women’s and Inclusive Football Development Officer Sarah Willington welcomed Female Football Week as acknowledgement and encouragement of women and girls.
“I think it’s a good initiative. It brings the awareness that females are high participants within the sport and across the sport,” Willington said.
“It’s good to recognise these people and show young kids there are pathways within the sport that don’t necessarily always mean you have to play.
“There are other ways to be involved whether it’s administration, coaching, refereeing.
“We also want to recognise the mums that do the washing of the strips every week or cut the oranges at half-time. The little things that really do build the sport.”
Football Queensland will be announcing each Female Football Week activity in the lead-up to the commencement of celebrations on Tuesday.
