Queensland referee Jarred Gillett will officiate the Hyundai A-League 2018 Grand Final between Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle.
Saturday’s season decider is Gillett’s fifth Hyundai A-League Grand Final and comes after he was named the league’s Referee of the Year at the Dolan Warren Awards held in Sydney on Monday night.
“Jarred has had another excellent season,” said Football Federation Australia (FFA) Director of Referees Ben Wilson.
“He has performed well many times before on the big stage and I am looking forward to watching Jarred and his team officiate on Saturday.”
Gillett, who played and refereed his junior football at Mudgeeraba Soccer Club on the Gold Coast, was extremely proud to be appointed to take charge of another Hyundai A-League Grand Final.
“The Grand Final is the pinnacle of the Hyundai A-League season and it’s an honour to lead the team of match officials in Saturday’s decider,” he said.
“This appointment wouldn’t be possible without the strong support of my colleagues, FFA referees coaching staff, my wife and my family.”
“The refereeing team has plenty of finals experience and I’m confident we’ll be fully prepared for what should be a competitive Grand Final on Saturday night.”
Brisbane assistant referee Andrew Lindsay has been named fifth official, joining Gillett, assistant referees Matthew Cream and Paul Cetrangolo, Kurt Ams (fourth official) and Craig Zetter (video assistant referee) in the officiating team for Saturday.
