Gold Coast Knights will host SWQ Thunder in Saturday night’s Match of the Round in Round 3 of the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland, while the National Premier Leagues Women’s (NPLW) season kicks off as Lions FC take on Moreton Bay United.

Knights will be looking for their first home win for the 2019 season after a Round 1 draw against Magpies Crusaders, while SWQ Thunder are still chasing a win after the first two rounds.
Results to date
Knights will bring some confidence into this weekend’s match after defeating Western Pride 3-2 in their Round 2 clash last weekend.
A Sam Smith double and a last minute Jarrod Kyle goal helped Knights to their first NPL Queensland victory after entering the competition for the 2019 season.
SWQ Thunder are yet to record a win in the 2019 NPL Queensland season, falling to a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Brisbane Roar Youth side last weekend, following a Round 1 draw with Brisbane Strikers.

After finishing in the top two last year, Lions FC will be hoping for a strong start to their 2019 campaign, while Moreton Bay United will be chasing finals football after falling just short last season.
The last time the two teams met resulted in a 2-2 draw, following Lions’ Round 7 win over Moreton Bay.
Key Signings
Hosts Lions FC have recently announced former Souths United forward Sofie Persson, 2018 Grand Final winner and Young Matilda Wini Heatley, and central defender Catherine O’Neill (previously at The Gap) as new signings for the 2019 season in a boost to their squad.
Moreton Bay United have also recruited well, with Jess Dillon leaving The Gap after five years to join the club, and Brisbane Roar duo Allira Toby and Natalie Tathem also signing for the 2019 season following the conclusion of the Roar’s Westfield W-League 2018/19 campaign.
