The second Football Queensland (FQ) Quad Series event wrapped up today in Brisbane after three days of competition.
The Brisbane tournament was held across two venues from Saturday, 4 May to Monday, 6 May, with boys competing at Logan Football Complex and girls state team selection held at Meakin Park, Slacks Creek.
Talent Support Program (TSP) teams from across the state came up against National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland club South West Queensland Thunder and Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) Wide Bay Buccaneers junior teams in an extension of the FQ Quad Series.
Boys and girls aged between 13 and 16 travelled from Far North Queensland (FNQ), North Queensland (NQ), Central Queensland (CQ) and Mackay for the event and despite some heavy rain on the first day of competition, were met with beautiful weather for the final two days of the tournament.
Joeys Head Coach Trevor Morgan was in attendance across the three days of the boys’ event at Logan Football Complex, also staying on for a coach education session after the second day of competition.
Young Queensland match officials also got the chance to show off their skills at the three day tournament.
Under 13 to Under 16 girls from around the state, together with Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) Academy program players competed for state team selection at the girls’ event at Meakin Park on Saturday and Sunday.
Brisbane Roar W-League Head Coach Mel Andreatta and Westfield Junior Matildas Head Coach Rae Dower were in attendance at the girls’ state selection event on Saturday afternoon to address the young players participating, discussing the pathways for girls in the state and success stories of Queensland players.
FQ Quad Series events will also be held in Cairns and Townsville later this year.
