National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland’s Olympic FC will host Hyundai A-League side Adelaide United in the FFA Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday night at Perry Park.
Both teams are coming off stellar results from the Round of 32 and are looking to cement their spots in the quarter finals.
Olympic have shown incredible form throughout their journey to the Round of 16. Across all their games, they scored 31 goals and conceded only four.
In fact, in their Round of 32 match against Western Australia outfit Bayswater City, they put their goal scoring abilities on display to come away with a 5-2 win.
Alex Smith and Jez Lofthouse contributed to the team’s tally while Chris Lucas snagged himself a hat-trick to become the first player in FFA Cup history to score two hat-tricks (from the Round of 32 stage onwards).
This high goal scoring ratio will prove to be essential when they go up against the 2018 FFA Cup Champions.
Olympic’s clinical form in the league meanwhile has been slightly interrupted after a string of inconsistent results in recent rounds. However, they’re in a good position on the table and have high hopes for the rest of the NPL Queensland season.
With the introduction of Hyundai A-League teams in the Round of 32, Adelaide United’s 2019 FFA Cup journey has been short but impactful.
In almost the exact same fashion as their upcoming opponents, they triumphed over National Premier Leagues Victoria side Melbourne Knights in a 5-2 victory in front of a crowd of 4,087 in their Round of 32 clash.
The 2018 FFA Cup Champions were relentless in attack but remained patient in defence, further cementing their status as one of Australia’s most in-form football teams.
Al Hassan Toure, Nathan Konstandopoulos and Riley McGree contributed to the A-League side’s tally while Ben Halloran scored a double for the side.
The Hyundai A-League team’s composure and experience will be essential when they travel to take on Olympic in the Round of 16 on Wednesday night.
Fellow Queensland side Magpies Crusaders will also play their Round of 16 match the same night when they go up against Moreland Zebras FC in Victoria.
