Brisbane Roar FC has today announced that Lions FC National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland Head Coach Warren Moon will join the club as General Manager of the Brisbane Roar FC Academy.
In a successful five-year tenure coaching at Lions FC, Moon’s coaching highlights have included reaching the FFA Cup Round of 16 while playing in the Brisbane Premier League and in the NPL Queensland, and leading his side to the NPL Queensland Premiership-Championship double in 2018.
A former member of the Roar’s foundation Hyundai A-League squad in 2005, Moon will return to the club to take up the position of BRFC Academy General Manager at the conclusion of the 2019 season.
Reflecting on his time at Lions FC, Moon said the successes his side achieved were some of many highlights.
“I have many highlights from my time at Lions with many special moments in the five years at the club, from FFA Cup nights to trophies we have won,” Moon said.
“Winning league titles is what I value the most above all as it’s so hard to achieve over the course of a season, and last year’s title was the sweetest of them all I’d have to say.”
Moon looks likely to repeat the feat this year, with his NPL Queensland side currently sitting on top of the ladder and in a position to secure the Premiership this weekend.
The NPL Queensland Head Coach said he was looking forward to commencing his new role at his former club.
“I’m passionate about Queensland football and I’m passionate about Brisbane Roar,” Moon said.
“I was there on day one and it’s an exciting time to be back as part of the Roar, to take the club forward, make some improvements and take the Academy to another level.
“I’m really excited to get started and I can’t wait to get going.”
Moon will take up his BRFC Academy position at the conclusion of the 2019 season, while Lions FC have announced that Darren Sime will take over as Head Coach for the 2020 season after working as an assistant under Moon for the last five years.
