Two Football Queensland referee instructors were recently invited to attend the Futuro Course in South Korea.

Paul Eldridge and Jacqueline Leleu attended the week-long course covering the latest changes in the officiating world.

Participating referees covered theory units on updates to the laws of the game, recent interpretations and considerations on incidents in the penalty area, hand ball, fouls and offside.

Eldridge and Leleu also participated in Video Assistant Referee (VAR) simulator training, where they had to judge whether a foul had been committed in real-time match situations.

Practical sessions consisting of refereeing drills incorporating the VAR system were held involving the local South Korean Referee Academy members.

To stay on top of the forever changing football landscape, referee instructors were tasked with leading group discussions on video incidents using the latest terms and concepts.

The Queensland referee instructors in attendance also had the opportunity to complete an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) match assessment form critiquing the performance of the match officials at the helm of a K-League fixture featuring hosts Seoul FC.

The Futuro Course provides exciting opportunities for referees to get hands-on experience at the elite level, exposing referees and referee instructors to new methodologies and the latest techniques which are instrumental to referee development.
