Football Queensland (FQ) has today confirmed the 2020 competition structure for the senior age groups in the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland, the National Premier Leagues Women’s (NPLW) Queensland and the Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL).
The following competition structures apply to senior age groups (U18, U20 and First Grade) in each competition.
In accordance with the 2019 FQ Competition Regulations, promotion and relegation has been applied to both the NPL Queensland and the FQPL senior competitions.
Following the 2019 FQPL season, Sunshine Coast Wanderers and Capalaba FC have been promoted to the NPL Queensland for the 2020 season.
Three clubs have also been relegated from the NPL Queensland and will compete in the FQPL for the 2020 season. These clubs are Western Pride FC, SWQ Thunder and Sunshine Coast FC.
The senior NPL Queensland competition will therefore consist of 14 clubs in 2020, while the FQPL will consist of 11 clubs in the First Grade and U20 age groups, and 12 clubs in the U18 competition due to the inclusion of Wide Bay Buccaneers in this age group.
The NPLW structure remains unchanged in 2020 with 13 teams.
From 2020, the NPL Queensland and FQPL junior age groups (13 – 16 years) will be allocated separately to senior age groups at each club following the decoupling of the junior and senior competitions.
Further updates on the 2020 junior NPL/FQPL competition structure will be provided in the coming weeks.
