Football Queensland (FQ) has today advertised three new part-time referee positions as part of a series of initiatives to be implemented in the coming months.
The announcement follows the recent appointment of Jacqui Hurford as State Referee Manager.
The High Performance Referee Coach role will provide panelled referees and assistant referees officiating in the NPL, NPLW and FQPL with expert coaching, advice and mentoring support.
The Emerging Talent Referee Coach position will oversee the development of Queensland’s next generation of talented referees, helping to improve the level of match officiating in FQ’s premier competitions.
These roles are designed to continue Queensland’s proud record of ultimately providing high-level officiators for the A-League, W-League, AFC and FIFA World Cup.
The third role is community-based in the Sunshine Coast Football Zone, with the Referee Development Coordinator responsible for building on the strong growth and development of refereeing already evident within the region.
The position will focus on raising the standard of referee education and coaching and will report to the State Referee Manager.
FQ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Cavallucci said participation had been highlighted as a key pillar in the 2020-2022 Strategic Plan for football in Queensland.
“Football Queensland has identified a need to significantly increase the number of referees across Queensland through greater support and development,” Cavallucci said.
“We’ve set a target to double the number of referees across the state by 2022, and these new positions will improve development opportunities for our match officials across the state.”
Murray Bird, General Manager – Operations, Compliance & Game Development said Football Queensland is dedicated to providing high-quality participation experiences for referees at all levels of the game.
“These positions will form part of a coordinated statewide approach, driving unity, consistency and cultural reform,” Bird said.
Applications for all three part-time referee positions will close on Friday, 13 December.
