The football community has come together in support of the families and communities impacted by the devastating bushfires across the country.
Football Queensland (FQ) has been working closely with Football Federation Australia (FFA), Brisbane Roar FC, regional zones and clubs to provide support and contribute to the fundraising appeals.
A National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland Select Team came up against a Brisbane Roar Legends side over the weekend in a charity match in support of Rural Aid’s drought and bushfire relief.
See the NPL Queensland Select Team squad here.
The charity match acted as a curtain-raiser to Brisbane Roar’s Hyundai A-League clash against Wellington Phoenix, and resulted in a 3-3 draw after two 20 minute halves.
In addition to a number of players from NPL Queensland sides, FQ Chief Executive Officer Robert Cavallucci also took to the field in Thomas Broich’s jersey as a special guest for the Brisbane Roar Legends side.
Each jersey worn by the Brisbane Roar Legends is now available for auction, with all proceeds to be donated to Rural Aid’s drought and bushfire relief.

In addition to the Brisbane Roar Legends charity match, FQ’s Football Foundation Cup will also raise funds for the bushfire appeal.
NPL Queensland Premiers Lions FC will take on FQPL Premiers Sunshine Coast Wanderers in the second annual Football Foundation Cup, to be held on Saturday, 1 February at Lions FC.
In addition, Round 1 of the NPL Queensland will be dedicated as a Bushfire Appeal Round, kicking off on Saturday, 8 February.
FFA today announced it had convened a National Bushfires Working Group to coordinate football’s response to the emergency and to raise funds with a unified national approach.
