Football Queensland (FQ) has today confirmed the composition of the senior age groups participating in the 2021 National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland Men’s and Women’s competitions and the Football Queensland Premier League 1 (FQPL 1).
The following competition structures apply to senior age groups (U18, U23 and First Grade in NPL Men’s and FQPL, U23 and First Grade in NPL Women’s) in each competition.
In accordance with the 2020 FQ Competition Regulations, promotion and relegation has been applied to both the NPL Men’s and the FQPL senior competitions.
Following the 2020 FQPL season, Logan Lightning have secured promotion to the NPL Men’s competition for the 2021 season, while Brisbane City have been relegated from the NPL Men’s and will compete in the FQPL 1 in 2021.
The senior NPL Men’s competition will therefore consist of 14 clubs in 2021, while the 2021 FQPL 1 will consist of 11 clubs.
Football Queensland recently announced the introduction of a new transitional eight-club FQPL 2 competition from 2021, which will act a bridge between local premier men’s competitions and a reformed NPL Men’s and FQPL structure. More information on the successful clubs who will participate in the FQPL 2 competition in 2021 will be released in the coming days.
Changes to the 2021 NPL Women’s competition have also been confirmed, with four new NPL Women’s licences awarded to form a revised NPL Women’s competition next season, before two competitions will be formed from 2022 onwards allowing promotion and relegation between the top-tier NPL Women’s and second-tier FQPL Women’s leagues.
