Football Queensland (FQ) has today released the draw for the expanded Q-League competition, which will kick off on Friday, 26 March.
“The Q-League brings together communities and players of all backgrounds while celebrating the cultural diversity of our state and is a great example of FQ’s commitment to delivering high-quality participation experiences for all Queenslanders,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“Football Queensland is delighted to expand the Q-League competition in 2021 after a successful inaugural season last year.
“We’re very excited to be able to support the community with an opportunity for even more teams to join the Q-League this year as we expand the competition to three groups, welcoming 28 teams to the league for the 2021 season.
“The expanded competition also aligns with FQ’s focus on providing opportunities for more participants to join our game, regardless of their age, background or ability.
“I look forward to seeing this year’s Q-League teams in action, and wish them all the best for the season.”
“The 2021 Q-League season is set to be an entertaining one as we welcome new teams to the league and introduce a new competition format,” FQ Officer – Diversity & Inclusion Butrus Haider said.
“We’re excited to welcome back a host of teams who participated in last year’s inaugural Q-League season including 2020 Premiers FC Old Bridge and Grand Final winners Best United, and to see a range of new sides playing in the competition this year.
“The new competition format for 2021 will see 28 teams compete across three competition groups, before the season will culminate in a Finals Series to be held in August at Mappas Park and Meakin Park.
“We can’t wait to get the competition underway next weekend and look forward to another fantastic season of the Q-League in 2021.”
