A team of National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland Legends will take on Brisbane Roar Legends this Saturday afternoon ahead of the Roar’s A-League fixture at Moreton Bay Daily Stadium.
Coached by current Gold Coast United boss Grae Piddick, the NPL Legends will be a mix of men’s and women’s players from the past nine seasons of NPL Queensland.
The star-studded line–up includes former National Soccer League championship winner Chay Hews and NPL grand final winning captain Danny Byrne, who led Olympic FC to the inaugural title in 2013.
Also set to feature is former W-League defender Jessie Rasschaert and two-time NPL winning teammates at The Gap FC, Jess Dillon and Charli McLennan.
Football Queensland (FQ) CEO Robert Cavallucci paid tribute to Brisbane Roar for hosting the event.
“This is another great example of how a Member Federation and the A-League can work together to support better outcomes for the game and community,” said Cavallucci.
“I have watched with great anticipation as the lineup for our NPL Legends took shape this week, and I’m sure the match against the Roar Legends will be a fantastic occasion for Grae and his players.
“As one of the first Member Federations to roll out the NPL in 2013, Football Queensland is proud to support this match and honour the terrific players who have turned out for various clubs around the state.”
Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre thanked FQ for getting behind the Legends initiative and said he looked forward to seeing a big turnout at Moreton Bay Daily Stadium.
“We’re very proud to continue honouring our history by bringing back the BRFC Legends as part of a big double-header this Saturday,” said Pourre.
“This will be a great celebration of some fantastic players who have given us incredible memories, wonderful wins and some unforgettable Grand Finals.”
Saturday’s curtain-raiser kicks off at 3:00pm and is to be played over two 20-minute halves.
