Football Queensland has today released a timeline for the implementation of the new community league competition structures in South East Queensland (SEQ) as part of the Future of Football 2020+ competition reforms.
The new community leagues will see clubs transition from previous Senior Men’s and Women’s community competitions typically including Brisbane City Leagues, Gold Coast Mid-Week Metro Divisions, Sunshine Coast Second to Fourth Divisions and TFL Championship and Conference Leagues into the new Brisbane League, Gold Coast League, Sunshine Coast League and Toowoomba League.
“This is an extremely exciting time for our game and a fantastic opportunity for community clubs at all levels to be part of a connected football pyramid through promotion and relegation between divisions for promotion-ready clubs,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“Football Queensland will shortly begin reaching out to clubs across South East Queensland in the next month to kick off the community competition reform implementation for the senior community leagues, and will engage in consultation with these clubs over the coming months to determine the competition rules and formats of the final competition structures.
“The club nomination process will also commence in June, before new league compositions are made public in January 2022.
“In addition to the new community leagues, a new knockout competition will be launched in each region with every club invited to submit one team to compete against their local rivals.
“The Brisbane Cup, Gold Coast Cup, Sunshine Coast Cup and Toowoomba Cup competitions will be introduced across SEQ, providing an exciting new participation opportunity for players and coaches.
“Our South East Queensland clubs have demonstrated a clear demand for a more connected competition structure, so we’re looking forward to working with these clubs across the coming months to implement a competition structure that will support their progression, reward performance and strengthen player pathways.”
More information on the SEQ junior league structures will be released in the coming days.
