Football Queensland has received formal notification from Football Australia of the cancellation of both the National Youth Championships (NYC) and National Training Centre (NTC) Challenge in September and October 2021.
After careful deliberation and consultation with its Member Federations, Football Australia decided to cancel both events due to the uncertain situation regarding state and territory travel regulations.
FQ State Technical Director Gabor Ganczer said the health and well-being of participants was of greatest concern.
“We know this will be hugely disappointing for our players, but during times like these, safety must come first,” said Ganczer.
“FQ is currently looking for alternatives to provide players with the opportunity to test their skills against players from different high-performance programs.
“Our intent is to select Boys and Girls Queensland Metro and Country State Teams in the next few months and provide alternative opportunities against like-for-like opposition.
“At this stage, the Boys’ regional TSP event in Townsville on the 14th and 15th of August is unchanged.
“The girls TSP Carnival on the 21st and 22nd of September has been moved to Brisbane to allow all FQ Pathway Programs to compete against each other.”
FQ will continue to update participants on any further developments.
