Football Queensland has confirmed that the suspension of football activity in South East Queensland has been extended until 11:59pm on Sunday, 22 August following today’s Queensland Government announcement.
While lockdown restrictions will be eased in South East Queensland from 4pm today, Queensland Government has confirmed that community sport will not be permitted for two weeks in the following Local Government Areas: Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton Bay, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley and Somerset.
FQ can also confirm the immediate suspension of all football activity in Cairns from 11am today, Sunday 8 August following the announcement today of a three-day lockdown in the Cairns and Yarrabah LGAs.
Any matches that are currently underway in Cairns may be completed, however all participants attending other matches that are yet to commence should go home as soon as possible as all further matches are cancelled.
No football activity of any kind is permitted in the listed LGAs during this suspension, including any and all forms of training sessions, matches, committee meetings, coach and referee sessions and all other football-related gatherings (unless these can be held online).
Training and football activity in other parts of the state unaffected by the restrictions may continue as normal, however any participants who have been in the listed SEQ LGAs since 1am on Saturday, 31 July must not participate in any form of football activity for the duration of the suspension, even if they are currently located outside of the affected regions.
Football Queensland will meet with clubs in the coming days to discuss options for the completion of the 2021 season.
