Football Queensland has today confirmed the 2022 FQ Masters League structures for Men’s and Women’s competitions as part of the Future of Football 2020+ reforms.
In 2022, the FQ Masters League will be structured in a home and away format spanning Men’s Over 35s, Men’s Over 45s and Women’s competitions.
The Men’s Over 35s and Over 45s competitions will remain split in North and South conferences, with Football Queensland to deliver the Metro North competitions and Queensland Masters Football (QMF) continuing to administer the Metro South competitions.
The Women’s Legends competition (Over 30s) will consist of one league featuring teams from across Brisbane, replacing the existing Brisbane Legends competition with games continuing to be played on Wednesday nights.
Depending on the number of registered teams, there is potential for the Women’s competition to be split into North and South conferences.
FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said the 2022 Masters League would provide clubs and participants with a fully sanctioned, professionally managed competition.
“We’re excited to provide clubs in Queensland with access to a sporting merit based, connected football pyramid through the introduction of new Masters League structures,” Cavallucci said.
“All registered players will be fully insured under Football Australia’s National Insurance Scheme and have access to newly ratified Competition Rules, Disciplinary and Member Protection and Dispute Resolution Policies.
“As outlined in our Strategic Plan, our vision is for football to be the game of choice for all Queenslanders, regardless of age, gender, location or cultural background.
“The Masters League will create increased playing opportunities for the football community and support clubs to build their numbers and club culture.
“From MiniRoos through to divisional football, the Masters League and Walking Football, FQ is delivering a variety of high-quality participation options for Queenslanders of every age.”
Masters League compositions will be finalised based on team nominations and final league standings in 2021.
