Three Queenslanders nominated for 2021 Logan Sports Awards

November 8, 2021

Three members of the Queensland football community have been recognised for their contribution to the game, named as nominees for the 2021 Logan Sports Awards.

Football Queensland Board Member Amy Chapman, Powerchair football player Tristam Peters and match official Anton Shchetinin will represent Football Queensland as nominees at the 2021 event, to be held this Saturday, 13 November.

The City of Logan Sports Awards pay tribute to elite athletes, passionate sportspeople, and those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the sporting community alive. This year will be the first time the city’s elite sportspeople have gathered since 2019 after the ceremony was cancelled last year due to COVID-19.

“It is fantastic to see members of our Queensland football community again recognised at the Logan Sports Awards with three nominations this year, with former winners including Matildas star Clare Polkinghorne who was the 2019 Sportswoman of the Year,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.

“To be in the running for these awards is a real achievement for Amy, Tristram and Anton, and testament to the significant contributions they’ve made to our game.”

FQ Board Member and former Matilda Amy Chapman has been nominated for the 2021 Sports Administrator of the Year award, recognising her dedication to driving the growth of the women’s game.

Chapman has overseen a massive period of growth for female football in Queensland and has been at the forefront of this transformational period in the women’s game. Chapman continues to be a positive role model for women and girls and is dedicated to building female participation across the state.

Elite Athlete with a Disability nominee and Powerchair footballer Tristram Peters was one of three Queenslanders selected to represent Australia in the 2019 Asia Pacific Oceania Powerchair Football (APO) Cup as part of the Australian Poweroos.

Peters has also experienced success playing for his local team Lions FC in the Queensland Powerchair Football Association (QPFA) competition with his outstanding performance in the 2019 Grand Final earning him the award for Most Valuable Player, and he also plays an instrumental role off-field as Secretary of the QPFA.

Queensland match official and member of the 2021 FIFA Panel of International Referees Anton Shchetinin boasts an impressive array of achievements which have seen him nominated for the Sports Official of the Year award.

Shchetinin featured prominently as a match official at this year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympics and was selected as Assistant Referee for the Men’s Gold Medal match between Brazil and Spain. This followed a previous appointment at international level as Assistant Referee for the AFC U-23 Championship Final between Korea Republic and Saudi Arabia in January 2020.

Shchetinin also made history alongside fellow Queenslanders Chris Beath and Ashley Beecham as the trio were selected to officiate an AFC Champions League Semi Final, the first time in the tournament’s history that the same three match officials were selected for a Semi Final after officiating in a Quarter Final leg.
