Mackay Football Park to host Australia Cup and Kappa Women’s Super Cup double header

June 3, 2022

Mackay Football Park will play host to two huge matches this Saturday, 4 June in a Whitsunday Coast v Central Conference double header featuring an Australia Cup and Kappa Women’s Super Cup clash.

The one-day carnival will be a showcase for football in Mackay, as teams travel from across the Central Coast and Wide Bay regions, creating a Festival of Football atmosphere for players, coaches, referees and families to enjoy.

Kicking off at 4:30pm, local side Country United FC will take on Gladstone’s Clinton FC in Round 4 of the Kappa Women’s Super Cup before FQPL 1 side Magpies Crusaders go head-to-head with Bundaberg powerhouse Across the Waves FC at 7:00pm in a Round 6 Australia Cup clash.

Manager – Whitsunday Coast Daniel Khoury said the double header would be an exciting event on the football calendar for the Whitsunday region.

“The Whitsunday region is excited to host matches for both the Australia Cup and Kappa Women’s Super Cup in Mackay this Saturday in a huge day for football,” he said.

“Both games are set to be thrilling encounters as some of the best footballers from across the Whitsunday Coast and Central conference go head-to-head in the battle for a spot in the next round of both competitions.

“The event will be one for the whole family, with food and drinks available to be purchased from the canteen at Mackay Football Park.

“We invite all participants from across the region to come down for this Saturday’s double header to witness the ‘Magic of the Cup’, with tickets free for children under 18 and $5 for adults, which will be able to be purchased on the day.”

Both matches will also be live streamed and available to watch through the FQ Whitsunday Facebook page and FQTV.

In the last round of the Kappa Women’s Super Cup, Country United triumphed over Magpies FC in a 4-1 win while Clinton FC succeeded over United Park Eagles FC in an emphatic 11-0 win.

Meanwhile in the Australia Cup, Magpies Crusaders were victorious over Magpies FC in an 8-0 win, and Across the Waves came out on top against Frenchville FC in a nail-biting 3-2 extra time win.
