Players from across the FQ Academy program will represent Queensland at the 2022 National Youth Championships (NYC) for Boys in September, with squad lists today confirmed.
Three Under 14 and three Under 15 sides will travel to Coffs Harbour for the tournament which will be held from Monday, 26 September to Friday, 30 September.
“The National Youth Championships provide a platform for our state’s brightest young footballers to shine on the national stage, so we’re delighted to see the tournament return this year following its two-year absence due to COVID-19,” FQ General Manager – Football & State Technical Director Gabor Ganczer said.
“The Queensland squads announced today feature FQ Academy players from across the five regional centres in addition to Metro-based players from the Brisbane Roar Academy and NPL Junior clubs.
“Participation in the National Youth Championships marks another important milestone for our state’s young players as they progress on Football Australia’s nationally recognised development pathway for Queensland footballers from the FQ Academy to potentially Australia’s national teams.
“The Queenslanders selected will be able to showcase their skills as they come up against the best young players from across the country, presenting not only a valuable development opportunity for them but also a chance to vie for selection in future national team squads.”
“Football Queensland has implemented a ‘One Queensland’ approach to the selection of state team players for next month’s National Youth Championships, which has allowed players to be identified no matter where they’re based throughout the state,” FQ Lead Club Development Ambassador – Talent Tom Laxton said.
“The FQ Academy regional and state carnivals have played a crucial role in this by providing opportunities for players to come up against opposition that they wouldn’t usually get to play within their own region while showcasing their skills in front of Football Queensland and Football Australia technical staff.
“This year’s selection process has been designed to focus on the individual development of players rather than team outcomes, with a coaching committee of more than 10 highly accredited coaches around the state collecting data for a talent ID database across multiple touchpoints of training sessions and matches including at carnivals and elite matches.
“Importantly, we’ve focused not only on the identification of current high performing players, but also of those players who display the potential to become future high performers and can benefit from the experience of playing at the National Youth Championships.
“On behalf of Football Queensland, I’d like to congratulate each of the young players selected and I look forward to seeing them represent our state at next month’s tournament.”
The 2022 National Youth Championships for Boys will be held at C.ex Coffs International Stadium in Coffs Harbour from Monday, 26 September to Friday, 30 September.
