Players and coaches from across the FQ Academy QAS program celebrated the 2022 season at the end of year celebration held last Sunday, 16 October.
The 2022 Sue Monteath Award for the FQ Academy QAS Player of the Year was awarded to Charlie Gibson after a strong season in the NPL Women’s competition and a national team debut for the Junior Matildas at the AFF U18 Women’s Championship in Indonesia.
“The Sue Monteath Award is an extension of our QAS Standards and Behaviours Award and is given to a player who has demonstrated the highest standard both on and off the field,” FQ Academy Director/QAS Head Coach Adam Pengelly said.
“This year’s recipient Charlie Gibson has an exceptional mentality and perseverance and is a great example to other young players with aspirations to make it to the highest level.
“As well as performing at a consistently high level within the NPL Women’s competition this year, Charlie was also recognised for her outstanding achievements in representing the country with the Junior Matildas at the AFF U18 Women’s Championship where she captained the side while on debut for Australia.
“The end of year celebration was a great opportunity to recognise players from across our FQ Academy QAS program and celebrate their achievements both through the regular season and after a hugely successful campaign at the National Youth Championships and the NTC Challenge. It was particularly pleasing to see such an improvement after a season with many disruptions.
“Thank you to all players, parents and coaches for a fantastic year and congratulations to each of our award winners for 2022.”
