Dear Central Coast Members,
The 2022 season has been one of immense challenges but also one of huge transformation and growth for the region, with our football community coming together to make significant positive change to the game.
From overcoming severe flooding to big successes on and off the pitch, 2022 has been a challenging yet prosperous year.
As we look back on the year there are many milestones, achievements and accolades to celebrate what has been a momentous 12 months showing just how much we have accomplished as a football community this season.
Central Coast FQ Academy in the Spotlight
In a first for the region, Rockhampton hosted an FQ Academy Carnival bringing teams and hundreds of visitors together from the Central Coast, Wide Bay and Whitsunday Coast.
The Central Coast was well represented at the National Youth Championships for boys and girls with four FQ Academy Central Coast players selected to compete. Congratulations and well done again to Charlotte Poyser (U16 QLD White Girls), Jamie Clark (U15 QLD Boys), Ruben Evans (U15 QLD Boys) and Tighe Butt-McGuire (U14 QLD Boys).
Participation Surges in 2022
Significant growth in participation was recorded this season with player registrations increasing by 14%, women and girls by 24% and coaches by 8%. Our local community engagement team were also busy throughout the year delivering school programs, MiniRoos Kick-Off and Holiday Clinics to 1,098 children.
Women’s Football Goes From Strength to Strength
2022 has been a bumper year for women and girls in football as a smorgasbord of social football products were rolled out this season. The social women’s 7-a-side competition was launched in Rockhampton generating significant interest in the local community with more than 90 players signing up. The second edition of the Girls United carnival was a huge success with a record number of teams and more than 200 players getting together to celebrate women and girls in football.
Kappa Women’s Super Cup Success
Clinton Football Club had an impressive run in the Kappa Women’s Super Cup defeating sides from the Central Coast, Wide Bay and Whitsunday Coast to make it to the regional final. The Gladstone outfit had the home ground advantage against Edge Hill United at Boyne Tannum FC but the visitors proved too strong on the night.
On behalf of the Football Queensland Central Coast team I’d like to thank you for your unwavering support, patience and the energy you have committed to our game this season.
I’d especially like to thank all of the club volunteers for the countless hours you pour into the game and the changes you have implemented to ensure football continues to evolve and improve.
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday and I look forward to welcoming you all back in 2023 for an exciting year of football as the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ arrives on our shores.
