Football Queensland is excited to announce a first of its kind Walking Football Fest, with expressions of interest now open for teams and individuals interested in participating.
The four-day Walking Football Fest hosted at QUT Stadium, Kelvin Grove, will be held between Tuesday 4 July and Friday 7 July featuring two parts; the Club Team Tournament held in the first two days, followed by a State vs State tournament.
“Football Queensland’s Walking Football Fest will welcome both new and existing local, national and international teams, and will show off the inclusivity of the game with Open Age Social Games, varied formats and Come and Try Sessions,” Football Queensland Senior Manager – Game Development Kate Lawson said.
“The Walking Football Fest will see a variety of men and women divisions up to Over 70s in 6v6 competitive matches and social 4v4 games with no goalkeepers.
“A true festival of Walking Football, this event is an opportunity for players of all ages and skill levels to join in a range of competitions, activities and celebrations and, being set in the fortnight before the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023TM, excitement for the game is sure to be at an all-time high.”
“The introduction of innovative events, such as the Walking Football Fest, ensure football in Queensland is and remains accessible to all with equality of opportunity; this is an extremely important benchmark and key pillar outlined in the Football Queensland 2023-2026 Strategic Plan,” Football Queensland CEO, Robert Cavallucci said.
“Football Queensland has the goal to become the most accessible sport in Australia where anyone can play anytime, anywhere and creating places where anyone of any ability can jump in and give it a go will be a key factor in reaching our participation targets and retention rates.”
