Queenslanders will get a chance to see one of the most exciting formats of the game on display this afternoon as Football Queensland hosts a Powerchair Football exhibition match at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ Unity Pitch in King George Square.
The Powerchair Football display will showcase skilled footballers from local clubs Lions FC, Brisbane Strikers FC and Brisbane City FC including Tristram Peters, Josh Merkas, Jack Bailey, Matt Simpson, Jessie McCarthy and Tom Byrne.
This exhibition match will be a great opportunity to watch national team players show off their skills, with two attending players, Tristram Peters and Josh Merkas, set to compete as part of the Poweroos, Australia’s national team, at the FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup 2023 in Sydney this October.
“As we welcome the Unity Pitch to Queensland, the delivery of activations such as this afternoon’s Powerchair Football exhibition match provides a great opportunity to showcase the inclusive nature of our game and community,” Football Queensland Senior Manager – Game Development Kate Lawson said.
“Our beautiful game will be on display in all its forms this week, with MiniRoos, Walking Football and Girls United sessions running in addition to today’s Powerchair Football exhibition.
“Members of our football community are encouraged to get involved in the activities at the Unity Pitch this week and take advantage of this unique opportunity to see some of our state’s best Powerchair Footballers in action as we prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023TM.”
The Unity Pitch will be in Brisbane’s King George Square until Sunday, 16 April.
