Football Queensland is excited to confirm it will host the 2024 National Futsal Championships, which will be held Friday, 5 January to Tuesday, 9 January at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre.
Delivered in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland and Major Events Gold Coast, the National Futsal Championships will form part of Football Queensland’s Summer Festival of Futsal which will also feature Football Threes, Beach Soccer exhibition matches and the Gold Coast International in the following days.
“The National Futsal Championships are a highlight of the Australian football calendar, and we are extremely excited to host the event in a way designed to drive the fan and football experience, inspiring the next generation of footballers, coaches, and referees,” Football Queensland CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“The event will bring together Member Federation teams from across Australia as we prepare to welcome participants and their families to the Gold Coast for an unmissable Summer Festival of Futsal.
“There is no better place to be in the Australian Summer than on the beautiful Gold Coast, and this event provides an excellent opportunity to bring the whole family to Queensland to enjoy the spectacular beaches, theme parks and entertainment alongside the range of futsal events being staged.
“Competing at this level on home turf will also be a fantastic experience for our Queensland futsal players, especially after the state’s incredible results in 2023 as all 12 teams reached the Semi Finals and five teams secured national titles.”
Tourism and Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the National Futsal Championships would kick a winning goal for the Gold Coast visitor economy.
“The Queensland Government is backing the Summer Festival of Futsal’s predicted $2.2 million bonus for Gold Coast accommodation and hospitality providers, and tourism operators,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
“Featuring the nation’s best on-court footballers, the Summer Festival of Futsal is set to inspire young players of all-abilities.
“The National Futsal Championships are a terrific example of the Gold Coast Sport and Leisure Centre’s ongoing 2018 Commonwealth Games infrastructure legacy at work.”
“I’m thrilled to welcome the National Futsal Championships to our city and be a part of the growth of this exciting fast-paced sport across Australia,” Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said.
“With more than 1,000 participants and 100 teams, we’re delighted to secure the rights to host Australia’s biggest representative futsal tournament and applaud Major Events Gold Coast and Tourism and Events Queensland for backing this great event. I wish players, officials and spectators a fantastic week at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre.”
The 2024 National Futsal Championships will welcome players in the following age groups; U12 – U16 Boys, Youth Men and Open Men, U13, U15 and U17 Girls, Youth Women and Open Women, and Open AWD Mixed.
