Football Queensland is thrilled to announce the expansion of its highly successful Football Queensland TAFE at School Program into new locations across South East Queensland. Following the program’s successful launch in 2023 at Meakin Park, the home of Football Queensland, this expansion aims to reach even more aspiring football enthusiasts and provide them with the tools they need to excel in the football industry while in the final years of high school.
The Football Queensland TAFE at School Program offers senior high school students the opportunity to study a Certificate II and III in Sport Coaching with a specialisation in football. By focusing on both practical skills and theoretical knowledge, the program equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the sport and prepares them for a future career in the sports industry.
Students in year 10 or 11 will have the chance to attend the program one day a week at various South East Queensland locations, including Brendale, Gold Coast, or Meakin Park in Logan. The 1-day a week schedule allows students to strike a balance between their regular academic commitments and their passion for football, ensuring that they can make the most of this unique opportunity. By completing the program, students can contribute up to 8 Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) credits to their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
“The TAFE at School program began with the goal to provide participants with a professional pathway into football coaching, development and administration across the Australian sporting industry, and having the opportunity to move this program to additional, more accessible locations for young Queenslanders to attend is just one-way Football Queensland is unifying football,” Football Queensland CEO, Robert Cavallucci said.
“With this program expansion, we can now offer the training to more of our football community; working alongside TAFE Queensland to mobilise the football specific foundation coaching training so it can be introduced into the programs held across South East Queensland, providing all participants with a ‘Home of Football’ experience wherever they are based.”
Jesse O’Hara from TAFE Queensland stated “the demand for this program was evident from the outset after our initial launch at Meakin Park. We had parents dropping off students to the facility in Logan every week from far reaching locations across the region. To make the program more accessible, we are opening up delivery locations on the northern and southern corridors of Brisbane, as well as the Gold Coast. We have also incorporated the Certificate III in Sport Coaching to create a 2-year program and provide students with a contribution towards their QCE or ATAR pathway.”
Football Queensland is delighted to expand its TAFE at School Program and extend its reach to more students across South East Queensland. By bringing this innovative program to new locations, Football Queensland aims to empower the future football workforce of Queensland, fostering their growth and development both on and off the field. The expansion reflects Football Queensland’s commitment to creating a strong foundation for the future of football in Queensland.
Applications for the expanded Football Queensland TAFE at School Program will open on July 17, 2023. This early announcement allows students to prepare and submit their applications in a timely manner. The program is set to commence in term 1 of 2024 for students commencing in year 10 or 11, providing an exciting opportunity to kickstart their football coaching journey and embark on a path to success.
