Football Queensland (FQ) has undertaken a strategic overhaul of its junior futsal competitions, launching the new FQ Academy Futsal League 1 and Futsal League 2, alongside the FQ Youth Futsal League and the FQ Academy Regional League.
FQ affiliated futsal and football clubs are encouraged to submit their team nominations as these newly structured leagues aim to elevate the futsal landscape and enhance development pathways for junior players, forming the foundations of FQ’s senior connected futsal pyramid.
The introduction of the FQ Youth Futsal League and the FQ Academy Regional Leagues highlights the diverse talent pool across every region in the state by creating and strengthening pathways for more Under 19s and regional players, offering increased opportunities to advance their skills and be selected for Queensland state teams.
“The restructuring of the FQ Academy Futsal Leagues reflects our dedication to elevating futsal standards, increasing accessibility and creating robust development pathways for our promising junior players across the state,” FQ Manager – Futsal Vince Sciacca said.
“The introduction of FQ Academy Futsal League 1 and 2, alongside the FQ Youth Futsal League and FQ Academy Regional Leagues, promises to produce even more exciting matches and competitive play across Queensland, marking a new era for futsal advancement in the state.
“As crucial foundational components of FQ’s connected futsal pyramid, these leagues will be pivotal in supporting player progression from grassroots to elite levels by providing essential development stages that allow our most promising young players to refine their skills in competitive environments and work towards state team selection.
“Futsal is a fantastic way for both indoor and outdoor players to develop fast and advanced skills and we encourage all our football clubs to establish futsal programs and integrate futsal into their development frameworks.”
The FQ Academy Futsal League 1, replacing the SEQ Futsal League, will be Queensland’s premier junior futsal competition. Running from October to December, it will feature U12-16 Boys and U13, U15, and U17 Girls, offering a top-tier platform for showcasing the state’s best junior talent.
The new FQ Academy Futsal League 2, which replaces the Junior Premier League, will offer localised second tier competitions in areas such as Metro North, Metro South, and South Coast. Accommodating Under 8 to Under 16 players, this league will see future expansion into the Darling Downs and Sunshine Coast regions, broadening opportunities for more young futsal players.
FQ Academy Futsal Leagues club nominations are only available to affiliated FQ futsal and football clubs and will form the pathway for players to represent Queensland at the National Futsal Championships each January.
Eligible clubs are invited to nominate a team for the FQ Academy Leagues here.
Nominations close Friday, 6 September.
